Foundation for Jewish Camp
InFocus® is providing training, comprehensive evaluations, camper programs, and recommendations for developing inclusive summer camp communities for children of all abilities across the United States. These camps have a history of including children with disabilities. With funding from the Ruderman/Alexander Inclusion Initiative, the FJC has undertaken a 3-year inclusion initiative to purposefully include children with more significant disabilities and support needs in all aspects of summer camp. Utilizing webinars, telephone interviews, staff and camper surveys, focus groups, and on-site consultations, the InFocus® team has been working with the FJC, and camps under their umbrella, to encourage and support their growth on the inclusion continuum.
Growing Beyond Yourselfie!
InFocus® camp advocacy programs use campers’ photography to share perspectives regarding camp values and social inclusion. Through a comprehensive series of photography prompts and a review of campers’ conversations, the InFocus® camp analysis team finds meaning in campers’ summer experience. These findings are then shared with camps to assist in cultivating a culture of inclusion. The results are used in myriad ways, including for program evaluation, staff development, and camper recruitment. The 2017 summer camp distance programs will be conducted at Camp Chi in the Wisconsin Dells and Camp Ramah in the Poconos. Contact InFocus® for more information regarding our summer camp distance programs.
